About EPCOT
EPCOT at Walt Disney World near Orlando opened on 1 October 1982 as EPCOT Center, the second park of the resort. The name comes from Walt Disney's idea of an Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow, and the park is often described as a permanent world's fair.
It celebrates human achievement, from science and technology to cultures around the globe. Its landmark is Spaceship Earth, the large geodesic sphere at the entrance, and around a lagoon the World Showcase presents eleven countries with their architecture, food and shops.
